Migrant Rights

We focus on migrant rights and digital security to protect personal data, online identities, and digital footprints from exploitation by brokers, scammers, or state actors. We highlight a dangerous paradox: migrants rely heavily on digital tools for recruitment and communication, yet they have almost zero digital security. Scam operators frequently steal identities or use private data to extort families back home. Development partners emphasise that digital security must rank as a fundamental component of migrant rights today. We integrate digital security training into all our literacy programmes. Our research investigates how data brokering directly facilitates labour trafficking in South Asia. Through targeted advocacy, we push for data protection laws that specifically account for the vulnerabilities of migrant workers. This ensures their digital rights get the same fierce protection as their physical labour rights.
