Migration Journalism

We are delighted to share a collection of four migration-focused articles from Global Voices that explore the growing challenges facing Bangladeshi migrant workers across international migration routes.

These stories investigate the human cost of irregular migration, deceptive recruitment networks, technology-facilitated trafficking, and the exploitation of Bangladeshi workers in different parts of the world.

The published articles include:

Tracing the recruitment trap behind Russia’s war
No justice for Bangladeshi workers who are recruited into Russia’s war — 4 November 2026

Technology-facilitated trafficking
How Bangladeshi migrants become victims of recruitment in Cambodia — 22 September 2026

A quarter of a billion dollar smuggling economy
How human traffickers transformed the Bangladesh–Libya–Italy route into one of the world’s most profitable migration corridors — 6 June 2026

When dreams meet digital recruitment scams
Bangladeshi workers in crisis — 30 November 2025

Through this reporting, I have sought to examine the intersection of migration, human trafficking, digital recruitment, organised smuggling networks, and the vulnerabilities of aspiring migrant workers.

Migration journalism is not simply about documenting movement across borders. It also investigates the systems, networks, and actors that shape migration journeys and the human consequences of exploitation.

Global Voices is an international, multilingual community of writers, translators, academics, and digital rights activists.
