We upgrade migration studies as the interdisciplinary study of human movement across borders and within states, which increasingly must engage with digital migration, climate-driven displacement, and shifting geopolitics.

We recognise that traditional migration studies—centred mainly on labour economics or narrow policy categories—fail to capture the full complexity of mixed migration flows, irregular journeys, and the digital infrastructures that now shape mobility.

Scholars highlight migration studies as a diverse, interdisciplinary field spanning economics, sociology, law, geography, and postcolonial perspectives, with increasing attention to migration–development linkages, governance, and rights.

We train students and practitioners to analyse how policies, data systems, and surveillance technologies affect migrants’ journeys and rights, and to co-produce knowledge with migrants and communities.
